From Jones Beach Camp, continue southbound along a firm trail on the bluff, crossing wood bridges over several gullies with small creeks, and passing Streamside and Barn Campsites. At about 1 mile, come to the Needle Rock Visitors Center, staffed by a volunteer host. Here you can get local news about trail conditions, wildlife sightings, buy maps, and visit the small natural history exhibits. There is a pit toilet and piped water here, but no trash disposal. Pay camping fees here for your use of campsites in the Sinkyone Wilderness.
The trail continues southward past a locked gate and along a dirt road for nearly three miles to Orchard Camp and Railroad Camp. Then a short walk along a creek leads to Bear Harbor, a former doghole port used to load logs onto waiting ships. There are campsites near the beach and reliable water in the creek.
