Los Angeles Southern County

The southern portion of Los Angeles County features an uninterrupted bicycle and pedestrian path 22 miles in length, arcing along the eastern edge of Santa Monica Bay from Will Rogers State Beach to Torrance Beach. Most of this length is along wide, sandy public beaches with almost unlimited opportunities for recreation and water sports. Openness of beach and ocean to the west is contrasted by dense development landward. The rocky shoreline and precipitous cliffs of Palos Verdes Peninsula define the southern reach of Santa Monica Bay. Even in this bold, rugged landscape, there are accessible beaches and teeming tidepools to explore. Around the point to the east are Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors; together the world?s busiest port. [Stan Bluhm]
